Renewable Energy Preferential Prices to Be Set after Act 16

Data displayed by the Ministry of economy, energy and tourism, show that currently 4,700 MW of new renewables are waiting to be put online, while the grid has a free capacity of only 2,300 MW

As of 25th January 2012, preferential prices of renewable energy will be determined upon completion of the respective energy unit, after it was awarded Act 16, BTA reported. Until now the preferential prices were set at Act 15.

The motives of the parliament for this change of the Renewable Energy Act were that the previously there were many loopholes allowing for violations and incompliance of wind and solar parks. According to PMs from ruling party GERB who proposed the change, if no actions were taken, the lack of control over new renewables capacities added would create serious risks for Bulgaria’s electricity grid and imminent imposing of limits on buying the energy they produce.

Data displayed by the Ministry of economy, energy and tourism, show that currently 4,700 MW of new renewables are waiting to be put online, 1,000 MW of which have official contracts for connection to the grid. 3,000 MW are at preliminary stage, while the remaining 700 are already in the process of connecting to the grid. Meanwhile the grid has a free capacity of only 2,300 MW.

Parliament member Valentin Hristov from GERB insisted that the energy companies should set exact dates for connecting their units to the grid, as part of an obligatory 10-year development plan presented in advance.
